The ‘Bucket List Family’ has well earned their nickname by doing what everyone with even a sliver of wanderlust in their soul dreams of: selling everything they own and travelling the world.
Switzerland, Dubai, Venice, Istanbul, London, Paris, Germany; they’ve seen it all and immersed themselves into the culture as well as explored the landscape. The Gee family, native to Utah, made the ultimate choice to uproot their lives of routine and get out into the world for a well-needed dose of adventure, standing as an inspiration for everyone dreaming of embracing travel, excitement, and a touch of risk in their lives.
It all began when Garrett Gee, a young entrepreneur, landed a fortune off of his company’s contributions to the Snapchat brand and immediately decided to put the millions of dollars (54 to be exact) to the side in savings. Realizing that he and his wife Jessica weren’t suited to the 9-5 lifestyle of briefcases and routine, Gee and his family decided to uproot their lives and head out into the world of chance and possibility.
They sold most of their possessions – bringing in around $45,000, which they use to fund the trip – and packed the rest into two backpacks.
Now they’ve been travelling for over a year and still going strong.
They take countless adorable pictures of their children Dorothy and Manilla, both blessed with identical golden curls and bright smiles, doing everything from skiing on the snow-dusted mountains of Utah to running along the desert dunes of Dubai. The young kids pose happily alongside their adoring parents in some of the most stunning places in the world, places most people only have… well, on their bucket list.
Travelling a total of 23 countries in 2016 alone, the Gee family are taking the world by storm, travelling country after country, seeing sights, immersing themselves in different cultures and taking in the stunning natural beauty of the world around them. Hiking, scuba diving, scaling cliffs, spotting sea turtles, swimming with sperm whales, and apparently even getting to know a yak at one point, they are grabbing life by the horns and travelling while they are young and still have the opportunity.
The Bucket List Family is living proof that possibility and adventure doesn’t come to a crashing halt once you get a job and have kids; instead the Gees are a close-knit clan, together doing everything under the sun (and sometimes the snow) side by side.
They send an inspiring message to the dreamers of the world: You don’t have to settle into 9-5 shifts and spread-sheets; you are not restricted, no matter where you are in life.
So whatever you’ve had on your own bucket list – go after it!
