Love is in the air. You no longer have to be travelling with a partner to join the mile high club thanks to the new app, AirDates. The app, which is basically the Tinder for the sky, will help horny travellers get it on thousands of feet up in the air.
The idea is that users can upload their travel itinerary on the app so they can find similar travellers on their flight to connect with. Obviously travellers are free to just chat and make friends with the app, just like Tinder, but let’s be real, no one is looking to make a friend on a flight.
Essentially, users set up the app by logging in through Facebook to specify what type of people they’re looking for, and where and when they want to meet. Once downloaded, users start by checking in at the airport and uploading their itinerary. Next, they start the AirDate hunt of finding someone who catches their attention. The best part about the app is that you can chat in the airport with the WiFi and still continue talking while you’re in the air by using multi-peer offline connectivity on your smartphone.
The app reads, “Every traveller has experienced the boredom of airports, ranging from check-in to boarding, while noticing interesting people in your surrounding. The difficulty remain to make a lasting connection in the brief moment available to you in the process of getting to your destination. AirDates allows you to scan, connect and remain in contact with your fellow passengers.”
And don’t worry about the potential danger of disclosing your travel plans. AirDates chief executive, Michael Richard, ensures users that a plane is the “safest place to have a date.” Where else are you completely surrounded by people with no chance of weapons or violence. He said the amount of people on a crowded flight “will eliminate any danger.” He also noted users are free to block other users; and AirDates is considering going the Bumble route, by only allowing women to initiate conversations to try and eliminate unwanted harassment.
The world’s first in-flight dating app is still being tested, but can be downloaded in the app store.
