We all know vans are very “in” right now. From a millionaire Major League Baseball player to regular, young couples, people worldwide are ditching the big house and picket fence and instead downsizing to living in modern, renovated homes on wheels. Equipped with all of the necessities, these homes save space and money, and most importantly, allow people to travel with their homes.
Jeremy Mahall followed this trend and purchased a vintage 20′ Class C RV. In order to make this lifestyle truly enjoyable, he realized he wanted to be able to travel and park his RV on an unused piece of land for an extended amount of time for a fee- kinda like paying rent for an apartment.
With this idea, and after noticing other van owners searching for the same need on Craigslist, Mahall decided to create an online community to connect mobile-dwellers with property owners. Bring Your Own Bed & Breakfast (BYOBNB) is a free, online service where dwellers can find a spot throughout the USA to park their mobile homes, and people with unused land can make some extra money by renting their land.
A space to rent doesn’t have to be solely a RV lot, but rather anything from a vacant driveway at your cottage to private land to a business’ private parking lot. Dwellers should keep in mind that their homes should be self-sustainable and self-contained as the renters don’t have to provide hookups for the internet, electricity or water. The property owner can add in additional features for an extra cost, but all terms are up to their discretion. Taking the BYOBNB route offers dwellers a safe and secure spot, free from ticketing, and offers property owners a chance to make some extra money.
