At this point, you have applied for NSFAS and want to find out if your application is successful. Fortunately, you no longer need to wait for a phone call or SMS or to keep calling the helpline to find out. It is extremely easy to look for yourself. NSFAS uses the MYNSFAS student Portal to show updates on your application status. This is an easy way and guide to help you track your application. All you need is to remember your username and password, which you had registered with.
Steps on How to Check your NSFAS Application Online.
Make sure that you know where you have noted down your username and password.
- Visit the NSFAS website http://nsfas.org.za
- On the top right-hand corner of the web page, click on myNSFAS.
- A new page will open, the myNSFAS page.
- Go to the Sign Inoption and enter your username (the email address you registered from) and your password. (If you have forgotten your password, click on the forgot my password option to reset it.)
- Click on Sign In.
You will then view the status of your application.
How can I tell my application status?
Your application will go through different stages and statuses before the final result. By logging in, you can tell at which stage of the application your entry is at.
Read the following results below to see what your application status means:
Application Submitted
This means that your application has been successfully submitted into the NSFAS system, and sooner or later, it will start getting reviewed.
Filtering
Filtering means that the system is checking whether you are a first-time student, a returning student and if you have previous qualifications.
Validation
Checks from third party associations are being done, such as SASSA and the Department of Home Affairs.
Evaluation
NSFAS is verifying all your submitted documents.
Funding Eligibility
NSFAS is verifying whether the financial status of your household qualifies for the bursary.
Awaiting Academic Results/Admission
NSFAS is checking whether your academic results and your institution admission status meet the requirements for a NSFAS bursary.
(Please note that you might be on this step of your application status for a while because it can be a lengthy process for NSFAS to receive all the relevant information from the institution that you have applied at.)
Awaiting Registration
NSFAS is in the process of receiving info from your institution so that they can see if they can create a bursary agreement.
(This is another step that takes longer because NSFAS must wait for information from your chosen institution.)
Signing of Agreement
If you have reached this stage, then your application has been successful. This is when you will receive an agreement based on your allowance that you will need to sign and upload back to NSFAS.
Payments
Your bursary allowances are now being paid through the NSFAS mobile wallet or your institution.
We wish you a successful application process.
