We live in interesting times. Times where technology is growing and expanding exponentially in almost every area, and yet, somehow, truly terrifying horror movies are almost impossible to find.
Stories are told of the previous generation peeing themselves in the theatre while watching The Exorcist for the first time, or refusing to talk to anyone named Damian after seeing The Omen.
So what happened? Well, desensitization of course.
There will always be those who are easily scare-able, but for those of us who are genuine horror fans, most of the new content out there is child’s play (and this is not a reference to the movie that, after watching, tarnished my entire childhood.)
Of course, there was the remake of It, which was just both simultaneously heartbreaking and adorable, the constant plethora of possession movies (which after seeing The Exorcist just feel like copycats), and then there are films such as 2016’s Hush, which, even though does it not break any ground, at least provides a different vantage point.
So where do we go from here? Well, virtual reality is a great place to start. Relatively new technology as far as the average consumer is concerned, virtual reality videos are constantly being added to YouTube and other popular video websites, not to mention arcades devoted to the subject.
So, to help you along with the scare-factor, here are some great horror VR experiences:
*Note, you will have to buy a Virtual Reality Headset and download a 360 app on your phone to properly view some of these.
