You’ve decided to start a travel blog! Fantastic. You’re on your way to having some great experiences. But first, you need to figure out what exactly to include on your travel blog, well, we’ve got you covered!
We’re going to start with the essentials. These are the things that every travel blog should include. Also, feel free to use different names for these pages. Ex. “About” could be “About Me.”
1. Homepage
This is the “home” for your travel blog. Things that you can include on your homepage are: Your logo, photos from your travels, recent blog posts, contact information, a very short bio/what your site is about, an email sign up form.
2. About
Readers are going to wonder who you are, what you’re about, and what you’re doing with your travel blog. Here’s where you can tell them all about yourself. The bio doesn’t need to be pages long; it can be a couple of paragraphs. Oh! And make sure to include a photo of yourself traveling to show readers what you look like.
It’s up to you, but you can either include your contact information on this page, or create a separate page with your contact information.
3. Blog
Here’s where all of your blog posts will show up. Unsure what to blog about? You can check out this article detailing what to write about on your travel blog.
4. Places you’ve been
Don’t worry if you haven’t been to a ton of different places. Start with what you have and keep building on it. Each of the places you’ve been can be a photo album with descriptions. You might also want to include a world map with pins in the places you’ve been.
Now that you’ve got the essentials down, you can start thinking about additional things to include on your travel blog. Here’s a shortlist of pages/information you may want to include:
• Travel Tips
• Tutorials
• Guides (Food guide, live music guide, hike guide, etc.)
• Photography
• Booking tools
• Advertise with us
• Videos
• Store (You can sell your own products; t-shirts, hats, bags, etc.)
• Resources
5. Advertising
You can put ads on your travel blog as soon as you start it, but don’t expect to make money for the first several months, unless you have a way to jump start your traffic! Learn about monetizing your travel blog here.
