Ecocapsule is a portable, completely self-sustaining home that lets you live anywhere in the world

Maybe your job requires you to travel or move around a lot, and you’re sick of living in hotel rooms with views of concrete parking lots. Maybe the pencil-pushing desk job has you thinking that you’re on the brink of going postal, and are ready to ditch the headaches and completely go off-the-grid? Or maybe you’re just an adventurer, and want a chance to see the world, but don’t have the necessities to do so. Enter Ecocapsule—an ultra-portable, sustainable, egg-shaped home powered by solar and wind energy. This tiny shelter can be transported anywhere in the world, and can support you for an entire year in off-grid locations.

The Ecocapsule comes complete with a folding bed, a working/dining area, a shower with hot water, a flushable toilet, a built-in kitchenette with running water, storage space and two operable windows.

Soon you will be able to live off-grid in one of these ultra-portable Ecocapsules.

According to True Activist, the shelter has a variety of sustainable offerings, including a built-in retractable 750W wind turbine and an array of high efficiency solar cells. The dual-power system and a high-capacity battery ensure that there will be enough power even during periods of reduced solar and wind activity. The egg shape of the Ecocapsule is optimized for the collection of rainwater and dew. The built-in filters allow you to utilize any water source.

The pod was designed by Nice Architects, an architectural studio based in Bratislava, Slovakia. The space measures 14.6 ft. in length, 7.9 ft. in width and 8.2 ft. in height. The total usable floor space is 86 sq. ft., giving the portable home enough space to comfortably fit two adults.

The dual-power system and a high-capacity battery ensure that there will be enough power even during periods of reduced solar and wind activity. It also collects rainwater and dew.

Each Ecocapsule weighs around 1,500 kilograms and can fit inside a standard shipping container. No preparations or precautions are necessary to transport the capsule worldwide. It can be shipped, airlifted or towed.

Nice Architects will unveil the first prototype of their product—which took seven years to complete—to the public today at the Pioneers festival in Vienna.

The price will be announced at the end of 2015, when they will also be released for sale. They will be delivered in the first half of 2016. This Ecocapsule has the potential to revolutionize the way people travel, and perhaps even the way they live.
