What better way to relax and reminisce on the hard week that has passed than with a cold beer in hand. Maybe your first beer of the night is after you’ve indulged your mind and body in a yoga session. If you’re looking for the ultimate relaxation session, why not put both together? Forget hot yoga, rage yoga, or even naked yoga, because the best thing since PB&J has finally been discovered: beer yoga.
Bums and bottles? Sign me up.
Germany’s BierYoga isn’t the first yoga studio to add the sweet nectar of alcohol to its practice, but it is the most recent to grab everyone’s attention and start the mainstream trend.
“BeerYoga is the marriage of two great loves- beer and yoga,” reads the site. “The joy of drinking beer and the mindful need of yoga complement each other, and make for an energizing experience.”
Beer yoga has slowly been making its way around the world, popping up in different studios. Sometimes classes are taught in breweries and the beer drinking is enjoyed after the actual yoga class. However, in the case of BierYoga, the drinking is incorporated into the entire session.
Basically the session usually lasts about an hour. Usually about one or two bottles per person are consumed throughout the session. Incorporated into the poses, the risk of dropping the beer definitely adds a better incentive to hold strong poses, in my humble opinion.
It may sound appealing to you, or it may sound like a joke, but it’s actually taken quite seriously.
BierYoga’s philosophy is, “BeerYoga is fun but it’s no joke- we take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness.”
BierYoga is currently offering sessions in Sydney, Australia. But don’t fret. You won’t have to travel across the world to get your fill of yoga and beer. Studios across America have been offering classes, and we can be sure a trend like this won’t die anytime soon.
Bottoms up.
