It’s funny how we all start this life in diapers, and many of us will probably end our lives in them. Age is circular, but we come to learn that age is just a number. Why do some of us feel like we are old souls trapped in young bodies, while a select few find their old age irrelevant to their youthful spirit?
For the series “Old Babies”, photographer Zachary Scott was approached by The New York Times about illustrating an upcoming article on the work of Harvard psychologist Ellen Langer, whose work over the past decades has found that a positive, youthful state of mind can in fact reverse or stall the aging process.
In these photos he reverts a set of six elderly characters back into their childhood phase.
“Ultimately, the series is a testament to the seriousness of play, illuminating the vitality and whimsy that lies within us all, should we choose to tap into it.”
