2016 was a year for the books. We watched (in horror? happiness?) as Donald Trump was elected to be the next President of the United States; we cheered on countries that took huge steps towards fighting global warming; we mourned the deaths of icons like David Bowie and Alan Rickman; and we all smiled when by some miracle Cleveland finally won a championship.
Through the good and the bad, 2016 was memorable, and every country accomplished something- whether it was good or bad. So, what did your country do better than everyone else this year? Did they finally master happiness? Were their pornstars the best of the best? Did they eat the most pizza or drink the most booze?
International Is Beautiful collected data from the World Bank and United Nations to figure out what every country excelled at this year. They used values of either “mostly per capita” or “percentage of the population” to decipher between the number ones. Then, they divided the data into 9 categories (commodity, psychology, ecology, gastronomy, economy, nicety, humanity, technology, and nasty) and figured out what every spot (minus the super small ones) was best at. Check out the map below to see the best of the best.
