Artist Julien Breton has mastered the art of gesture, working silently in urban environments, using the world around him as his canvas, recording it with a long exposure on a film camera. When he is drawing, it looks as if he is doing some sort of choreographed movement, simply waving a flashlight through the air, only when the image is finally exposed his true art is fully revealed. Breton refuses to retouch or edit his photographs, meaning each sweeping loop, dot, and tail, must be made in one fluid motion – all while completely blind to the final product.
The floating light forms have a way of reacting with their surroundings. It is difficult to imagine a pen more beautiful than one that translates the human language through dancing light.
