He lives in a trailer park and only owns four pairs of shoes, but Tony Hsieh wouldn’t have it any other way. The CEO of Zappos is a successful millionaire but rather than living a lavish overzealous lifestyle he lives for simplicity in his trailer for $950 a month. With a net worth of $830 million, Hsieh could live wherever he wishes but prefers a quaint trailer in a tight knit community.
Tony Hsieh has put forth $350 million in hopes to redevelop downtown Las Vegas, which is part of the reason he has built this trailer park. Through this trailer park he aims to bring together people and form a community. He himself has become a part of this community. He finds happiness through life’s experiences and spending time with others and through this trailer park aims to share his simple sense of living with others. Hsieh has lived in ten places over the years but this 240 square foot trailer is by far his favourite place to call home.
Inside Tony Hsieh’s quaint trailer that he calls home
The trailer park isn’t the stereotypical trailer park you may picture. There are 30 Airstream caravans lined up with plenty of breathing room in between.
With a main area for campfires and outdoor movies this park is designed to bring people together, and transform strangers into a family.
Hsieh may be a successful man but in his trailer park, his success and wealth doesn’t matter. He lives with his pet alpaca Marley, and lives no differently than the others in his trailer park community.
Tony Hsieh truly demonstrates the saying “money doesn’t buy happiness.” He lives perfectly content in his small quarters with the necessities but not much else, as he admits he “cares a lot more about experiences than stuff.”
