“Dammed is the man who abandons himself.” – Raimundo Arruda Sobrinho
After 35 years of being homeless, life for the 77-year-old Raimundo Sobrinho began again. He sat at the same street corner in São Paulo for years, until a local named Shalla Monteiro befriended him. Shalla noticed how Raimundo would write poems every day. Impressed with his writing and touched by Raimundo’s dream to have his work published, Shalla created a Facebook page for him that featured his daily writing. The simple gesture grew into something that Raimundo would have never expected.
Raimundo’s poems blew up on social media, and he earned enough of a following to fulfill his dream of being a published poet. Raimundo’s story didn’t end there: Shalla received a message from Raimundo’s elder brother, who had been trying to find Raimundo for years. Shalla got in touch with him, and ultimately helped Raimundo reunite with his brother and his family.
How’s that for a happy ending?
