With controversial reports of the dangers of electromagnetic radiation being ever present in the news, it is no surprise a new luxury brand called Arjuna has come up with a new way to fight back against the invisible rays constantly coming at us from every direction.
Microwaves, x-rays, radio waves and gamma rays are always around even though most of the time we are unaware. Scientists have linked these waves to cell mutations and diseases like cancer as well as neurological and reproductive problems. At this point, cutting out all of these electronics cold turkey is extremely unrealistic, especially in a society that is only growing more and more tech savvy. According to Mikaela Bradbury, the founder of Arjuna, there have always been electromagnetic waves in our atmosphere, but because of human error, the overuse of these rays has caused extreme change to undergo in our environment.
Bradbury started the company after her mother developed stage 4 ovarian cancer. She wanted to learn as much as she could about the environmental factors that contribute to the growth of cancer cells in the body. Combining traditional eastern medicine ideologies into our western society, Bradbury came up with the idea of using silver as a fabric while helping her mother treat burns she had from her cancer radiation. Silver is used because it is one of the most conductive metals with the ability to reflect these harmful rays. The materials used in Arjuna’s fabrics are called “soft metal,” a play on words of the colour and function of their healing garments. It does cost to stay electromagnetic-free however, as the most inexpensive product this company offers is computer cuffs, which retail at $55.00.
The company claims that some people are just naturally more sensitive to electromagnetic radiation than others, calling it E-sensitivity. Some of the symptoms of e-sensitivity are dizziness, headaches, nausea and skin reaction. Of course, it is hard to prove that these symptoms are caused by electromagnetic rays, but we know for sure that they are harming us, even if no physical symptoms immediately appear. With the world becoming more and more electronic than ever before, we are truly unaware of all the agents harming us. Our best bet may be to reconsider the amount of time we spend using our devices, and every now and then, take a day off.
