Ori Gersht is a fine art photographer from Tel Aviv, Israel. His style of film and photography explore the themes of life, death, violence and beauty, as well as destiny and chance. Now based in England, he is a professor of photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, England.
In a photo series he created in 2014 titled On Reflection, he would place a mirror in front of a bouquet of flowers, and electrocute the mirror. He captures a picture the moment the mirror shatters, leaving a broken and obscure reflection in the cracked glass; the vibrations of the electricity somewhat visible. The photo series is both beautiful and destructive, showing beautiful life through a broken lens. Gersht’s project reflects one that he made previously, the difference being that the flowers were instead blown up.
