René Koster is a travel photographer who voyaged to Antarctica on a historical ship that was constructed in 1911. Harbouring a great interest in past expeditions once travelled by sailors over a hundred years ago, Koster set out to capture the “beauty of emptiness and cold” as all the images portray emotions of loneliness and quiet solitude. The photographs were created through the use of modern technology as Koster wanted the colour of the landscapes to be emphasized. The majority of the images are free of human forms and elements of the present, giving a sense of timelessness. This body of work was recognized by The Travel Photographer of the Year, earning a runner up position. You can follow Koster’s work and various photographic journeys through his website and on Instagram.
