Currently, a Calgary man is rowing across the Atlantic Ocean from Halifax to France. He is attempting this incredible journey to raise $200,000 for cancer research. The strenuous adventure is nothing new for Laval St.Germain, who scaled Mount Everest in 2010 like it was no big deal – he didn’t even use an oxygen tank.
Laval St.Germain’s six metre long row boat will be his home for the next few months as he fights to raise cancer awareness. He’s even packed a fishing spear for when he wants some fresh seafood. The disease is nothing new to Laval as his father in-law passed away from the disease and now one of his best friends is battling against it. Laval St.Germain is setting a perfect example for us all. I’m not saying go out there and row across the Atlantic, but if there is something that really hurts you in this world, go out and defeat it.
You can follow Laval St.Germain on his journey as he’s documenting the whole thing on Twitter. If we can learn anything from Laval, it is to stand up and fight for what you believe in. We can change this world, and sometimes it just takes one person to take a stand.
