WikiLeaks just released 20,000 emails from members of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and quite a few seem to implicate chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
A May 18 email, sent by the chairperson to Chuck Todd, NBC’s political director, first quotes a forwarded MSNBC piece from the same date, titled: “MSNBC’s Brzezinski: Wasserman Schultz ‘Should Step Down,’ Dem Primary ‘Has Been Unfair’ To Sanders.”
“This must stop,” the subject of the email was titled.
“Chuck, see below. I would like to discuss this with you today. Can you reach out to Luis* to schedule a call? Thanks. DWS
The piece goes on to discuss how MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski called for Wasserman Schultz to “step down” over her handling of the primary process. Brzezinski asserts that the Democratic Party never took Sanders seriously and that the entire primary process itself was unfair. “[They] rigged the entire thing,” said Brzezinski’s co-host, former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough, who added that, if he were Sanders “I’d say, ‘Go straight to hell, I’m running as an independent.’”

Pseudonymous hacker “Guccifer 2.0”, responsible for past data dumps, has claimed responsibility for the leak. Among the other emails are some pretty interesting threads. Like this one, where Wasserman Schultz jokes about the idea of Sanders becoming president. “This is a silly story. He isn’t going to be president,” she says, in response to a forwarded CNN piece titled: “Sanders: If I’m elected, DNC leader would be out.”
In another email, she discusses potential interview strategies with her communications director. “[The Sanders camp] will be out there. If I hide, their narrative will go unchallenged. I will pivot quickly but we have to be there.”
Wasserman Schultz was not available for immediate comment.
