If you’re single, you probably use, or have used, Tinder. You may be looking for an hour of fun, the love of your life, or you may use the app to get a little creative. I’ve seen people use the app to promote their bands, I’ve seen girls use the app to see if their boyfriends are shady, I’ve even seen my friend use the app while on vacation in Europe to find weed (and yes, it was successful). But, I’ve never seen this. Two guys used the app to score free accommodation and food as they travelled Europe.
YouTubers, Matt Dajer and Ammar Kandil, from the YouTube channel Yes Theory, went on their first trip to Europe to travel through the cities of Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona. They had no budget planned for the trip; their plan was to rely solely on the generosity of Tinder girls to support them through their adventures.
Before you drop everything and buy a plane ticket with just your handy app, know that the guys had a success rate of less than one per cent after swiping through more than 10,000 girls. However, according to their video, they did manage to get both accommodation and food in every city. This was their way of enjoying the ultimate ‘local experience.’
The guys had their ups and downs, including not finding a match willing to let them crash until 5:30 p.m. on their first night and having significant blows to their self esteem levels a few times. But, the guys did have more highs than lows and ultimately were successful.
“We originally wanted to send our wallets back home by mail so that we’d have no choice and wouldn’t spend money, but the post office wouldn’t let us,” said Dajer according to True Activist. “You’re not allowed to send your wallet by mail apparently. But for the most part we stuck to it and the point of the whole project was really to see if people would even be willing to hear us out and take us in, which they did.”
