Buckle up your seatbelt kiddies because the Kelly Slater Wave Company spent nine years designing the longest artificial open-barrel wave ever to grace this side of the universe and just released footage of it in action.
“This is the best man-made wave ever made, for sure, no doubt about it,” Slater says. “It’s a freak of technology.”
What makes this wave so different from your average tourist-clogged Disneyland wave pool is that this is a wave of real life proportions that is the first of its kind to have a barrel. For those of you who have never surfed before, skimming through a tunnel of rushing water is like sex – hell maybe even better – as you glide through blue torrents you feel like Poseidon himself, making glorious love with Mother Nature.
Imagine the ability to practice surfing all day regardless of your environment, weather conditions or wind direction. Now that sounds like the ultimate breeding ground for unparalleled skill. If you think about it, an invention like this could change the sport forever, bringing artificial surf spots to even the most land-locked regions.
At the Kelly Slater Wave Company, the waves never stop. All I want to know is where the hell I can ride one, and do you guys think it is possible for me to build one in my own backyard?
