One line can speak a thousand words. Mo Ganji’s mission is to create simple images with strong impact by creating single line image tattoos. Ganji blends seamlessly with the minimalist and mini tattoo craze that has been spearheaded by tattoo artists to the stars like Jon Boy, who specializes in tiny tattoos. However, what Ganji has done outshines his minimalist predecessors. His tattoos create a powerful imagery of the stunning simplicity of the unbroken line that resonates with its viewers. And he has a really sick beard.
Ganji chose the continuous line because “Everything here comes from the same energy. If I die, I become a tree, and the bird eats the tree and it becomes me. Everyone is one. One continuous energy that just goes and goes and goes.” Ganji free hands his designs blind on paper and then refines them before they go on someone’s body.
Ganji is based in Berlin and began body art in 2014 after giving up a successful career in body art to follow his true passion. His parents came to Germany from Iran when Ganji was two years old. Ganji has spoken about the pressures of growing up with immigrant parents to become a doctor or a lawyer, and achieve the “better life” they dreamed for him when they left their home country. Ganji has said “you achieve the life standard that everyone is seeking – a good place, a car, a career – and you say, ‘This is good, I make a lot of money, but it’s not really satisfying. This is not me.’” The beauty and simplicity that is imbedded in all of Ganji’s art is reflected in his life.
“The funny thing is that nothing with value can be bought and values are what define us.” – Mo Ganji
