Last year two Russian ‘rooftoppers’ took on the Shanghai Tower, the second highest building in the world, free-climbing to the top and capturing the ascent with GoPros strapped tight to their foreheads. The climbers, Vadim Makhorov and Vitaly Raskalov, represent a two man team named ‘ontheroofs’, documenting free-climbs spanning from the Moscow Bridge, Pyramid of Cheops, Cologne Cathedral and the Seven Sisters Buildings.
Makhorov and Raskalov’s—25 and 21 years old—have been pursuing rooftop and urban exploration projects for the last 5 years. In order to capture high-quality footage the team uses GoPros, a Canon5D Mark III and 6D with Canon 70-200 4L, 17-40 4L lenses. Still, the climbers contend that their rooftopping is mostly hobby work. “There’s a saying that the best hobby is the one that also feeds you. That applies here,” says Makhorov in an interview with Huffington Post.
This is the video of the ‘ontheroofs’ team’s most blood-curdling ascent.
