The average age of someone working at a minimum wage job is 35.
Wait, 35.
That’s right. It’s not teenagers and college students living off minimum wage anymore, it’s mostly adults. A quarter of those adults working on minimum wage have children, according to this New York Times article.
So, the next obvious question is, where the hell are these people supposed to live?
How could say, a single parent, survive on minimum wage. Well, after conducting some research, I found overwhelmingly that you would either need to live in the South, or live in Flint, MI. Yeah, that place where you can’t drink the water.
When I say “survive on minimum wage,” I mean would have to work 30 hours or more a week just to pay rent, let alone the other bills and the cost of raising a child.
