Jason Borders is not your typical artist. Instead of paper he uses bones and skulls as his canvas. The result is an intricate and beautiful collection of artwork like you’ve never seen before.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Borders carves each piece by hand using a dremel. He does not plan his designs beforehand, but instead incorporates randomization, improvisation and intuition. Borders chooses to work this way because it means that a few elements can be used to generate an infinite number of results.
On his website he states:
“A large part of what I do involves a familiarization with death. My belief is that, as painful as it can be, looking directly at death helps you to live your life with intent and purpose. In this light, the work I do delves into a place where the lines between life, death, fantasy and reality are blurred.”
