Beardtruck Films’ Art as a Weapon is a documentary series examining the power of art in the volatile Southeast Asia state Burma (Myanmar).
Part four is entitled “Non-Violent Struggle”, and looks at art’s function as such. We’re introduced to King Zero, a monk, poet, and activist who is in the process of placing stickers around the country in order to encourage citizens to think critically of their government and the world around them. The Saffron Revolution, which resulted in the deaths of some of the monks who organized it, is also explored, as well as the intersection of artistic creation and Buddhist teachings; after all, both of them ex- and implicitly preach non-violence in the face of adversity.
