Mark Bustos, a professional hairdresser from New York, found a way to incorporate his passion into helping the homeless. His usual cuts run for around $150 at work, but on Sundays Mark walks the streets and gives the homeless complimentary cuts. The idea is to give those down on their luck a feeling of confidence that could encourage a new start.

Mark seems to realize that helping the homeless is not just about putting a pocketful of change in their hands, it’s about understanding that the potential for change is in your hands. That’s why he created the hashtag #beawesometosomebody on social media as a platform for people to post photos of them doing a random act of kindness.

As Mark puts it, “Anybody can do anything with the gifts that they’re given.” So give your talents to the world selflessly. After all, generosity is contagious.
