There is something incredibly sad about animals being squished into small spaces that look nothing like their natural habitats. People claim to save animals by bringing them into captivity, but often it is evident that the animals are unhappy. In China, the Grandview Aquarium is home to what they are calling “the saddest polar bear in the world”. This aquarium sits inside the Guangzhou mall, and the animals inside the aquarium are given tiny spaces with some water to drink and food.
Recently the animal rights group “Animals Asia” has taken to the internet to help spread the word of this wildlife prison. The group posted a video back in March of “the saddest polar bear” laying down in his enclosure. It looks like the polar bear is crying. The once proud and free animal now suffers for the benefit of human selfies. According to Animals Asia, this sad polar bear isn’t the only animal stuck in this “aquarium”. They also have wolves, Arctic foxes, beluga whales and a few walruses. Instead of roaming the Arctic these animals roam a tiny cold room in the middle of a popular mall as they are subjected to loud noises and the constant flash of cameras.
Animals Asia has started a petition to shut down the zoo immediately, so far to no avail. The petition has over 500,000 online signatures and the video of the world’s saddest polar bear has over a million views. With the zoo’s reluctance to shut down, Animals Asia is still fighting the good fight. If you want to help free this poor animal sign the petition and encourage everyone you know to do so. This just proves the point that some of these zoos care more about the dollar bills than they do the lives they claim that they are protecting.
