2024 is looking like it will be one of the most historically significant years in all of human history. Yielding over 200,000 applicants from all over the globe, and only 660 remaining, in the end only four will be given the opportunity to participate in the Mars One mission and vanish from the Earth all together.
In a mere nine years, Mars will take its first steps towards being a planet that could sustain future human life. However, although the plan is to colonize Mars, these astronauts will be under strict stipulation—mainly, no space sex. This may seem like a cruel mandate, but the reasoning is simple: their supplies couldn’t support an extra baby.
Entertaining the thought of living and dying on the red planet draws a thick divide between the table of pros and cons. On one hand, you would become an immortal historical figure—larger so than even Neil Armstrong. On the other, you would be, for all practical purposes, dead to your family and everyone you once knew.
