Our minds can work against us in completely unexpected ways, even when making everyday decisions or forming a basic opinion of something. Subconscious biases can offer shortcuts to conclusions that are too reductive or convenient. We see it everyday in the way politicians rouse a voter base with little substance or logic in their carefully crafted rhetoric. We ourselves may misjudge our own knowledge or skill on a matter, or ignore, however intentionally, a fact that opposes a long-held belief. It happens. Catching it is a matter of critical thinking, and of course, knowing where these logic gaps may appear. The infographic below highlights the big ones and gives examples that may sound familiar:
