“Originals are not conformists. They are the people that stand out and speak up. Originals drive the creative changes in the world. They are the people you wanna bet on. And they look nothing like I expected.” – This is the intro to an excellent TedEx Talk given by Adam Grant, a Philadelphia-based author, and professor.
By stating that “They look nothing like I expected” Grant is opening a space for talking about procrastination, and it’s role in the creative processes. Being quite the opposite – the guy actually finished his senior thesis four months before the deadline – and an organizational psychologist, he gives a fascinating insight into what does procrastination mean and how does it work for some of us.
Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci worked on and off for 16 years on Mona Lisa? Or that Martin Luther King Jr. rewrote his speech until the last minute? He added the iconic four words 11 minutes before his speech – because “I have a dream” was not in the script. If you are quick to start but slow to finish, you may be one of them – check this excellent talk out and share your thoughts!
