Often people with disabilities are only seen as their disability. This photo series featuring children with Down Syndrome allows us to see them as so much more. Soela Zani, an Albanian photographer has children with Down Syndrome help her recreate historic art by posing as the art work themselves.
The way each portrait is set up as an iconic painting shows each child as a masterpiece. In her article for Bored Panda, photographer Soela Zani says, “Every human is a piece of art.” Her photography acts as an education piece as well, to reach out to people and change their perspective on disabilities. As the children become the art work, they are no longer seen as their disability but rather seen as the beautiful masterpiece they truly are. Through her work Zani wants to shine light on the fact that “we are stronger than our differences.”
